There’s a lot of games that get put on Steam Greenlight every week and a majority of the time there are hidden gems mixed in with the shovelware and asset flips, which leads me to this new weekly series called Greenlight Weekly. To help swim through the vast ocean of games that pollute Steam Greenlight, I’ll bring you a grab bag of quality titles currently on Greenlight that you might have missed. This week I’ve found 10 games I believe deserve your attention alongside my thoughts of the games or some information straight from the developers.
Azure Saga: Pathfinder is a unique story driven Tactical Turn-Based RPG with a mixture of sci-fi and medieval fantasy theme, visualized in a stunning 2.5D isometric drawn world. You will be playing as Synch, the son of the head scientist from Nomad Space human colony that had been stranded on an unknown planet. Together with his Droid assistant, they will embark on a journey to find their way back home.
Inspired by Nuclear Throne and possibly using the same engine- Blazing Bleaks is a roguelike shooter with beautiful sprite art and a snazzy sounding soundtrack. Boasting a boatload of guns, endless amounts of enemies and 5 playable characters, it looks like a good time waiting to be had.
Grab Castlevania and Dark Souls then mash them together and you’d end up with Dead Cells- a 2D action-platformer that looks absolutely gorgeous. Boasting permadeath and no checkpoints, Dead Cells is aiming for the hardcore market and there’s definitely a niche that will gladly accept that level of difficulty. There are a lot of upcoming games trying to mimic the Dark Souls formula of challenging difficulty with tight gameplay and Dead Cells looks to be one of the better ones.
Call me biased but Get’em Gary is the first game I’ve ever seen with my name in the title, so it was a given it’d be on this list. Reminiscent of classic titles you’d play at the arcade, and using the same premise as the original Donkey Kong- climbing up and down a tower avoiding bowling balls, Get’em Gary looks is a nostalgia-blast.
“Lament, an Action-Platformer about a wolf with a buster sword! Inspired mostly by Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden on the NES. Swing your way through countless enemies and try to restore the cursed sword to its former glory!”
Heavily inspired by the Advance Wars series and sticking to the tried-and-true formula, Macro Tactics aims to bring all the fun from the Nintendo series to Steam. Boasting 50 missions and 10+ unique playable commanders as well as an online multiplayer mode with up to 4 players, Macro Tactics has me excited for the finished product.
Neko Navy is a whacky side-scrolling bullet-hell shmup where you take control of a cat through 7 worlds. It’s adorable, what more can I say?
“Sango Guardian is a fighting game, characters and scenes they use Chinese design elements, the full version currently has 10 characters can fight, nine scenes randomly selected, rich even strokes waiting for you to challenge!”
Greenlight Weekly will be an ongoing series on every Saturday. If you like the concept and have any feedback, feel free to leave a comment below. Have a great weekend.
